Moscow, October 12, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has cited statistical data saying that number of permanent parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia is probable to grow up to 40 million people in coming 20 years.
"Some statistical forecasts say that if things will go on as they do now our country will have over 40 million permanent parishioners, enchurched people in coming twenty years," the Patriarch said on Tuesday at a press conference in Moscow, though urging not to focus on figures but to keep working.
Patriarch Kirill noted that flock of the Russian Orthodox Church has recently become younger. When he served as a hipodeacon (in 1960s - IF), he saw four-five young people among church parishioners on a festival day, but today the situation has dramatically changed.
"When I celebrate divine services, especially on festival days, Easter night, I am impressed as I see not elderly people, not middle-aged people, but I see people in proportions that I see in the streets," the Patriarch shared his impressions.
Among other statistical data, the Patriarch voiced information referring to the level of education in Orthodox families: thus number of children with higher education in Orthodox families is five percent higher than in other families.

Patriarch Kirill associates Russia's achievements with Orthodoxy and spiritual strength of people
Rybinsk, September 13, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia wished Russians to revive the spiritual strength alongside with reviving Orthodox shrines.
"I'm glad to see churches revived and God grants together with these churches inner strength of our people will be revived, that inner state without which it is impossible to win a victory and we need these victories," the Patriarch said at a Rybinsk pier in the Yaroslavl Region where he came on Saturday onboard the Pallada yacht.
Right from the pier he went to the Transfiguration Cathedral where over thousand people welcomed him. Some of them held banners in their hands saying: "We ask for your prayers, Your Holiness!", "Your Holiness, bless!", "Hurrah, our Patriarch!"
Addressing the believers, the Primate said that it was not by chance that local merchants had built so beautiful churches here: they did it "out of the deepest faith."
People, who developed Russian economy, understood that the country could be powerful and prosperous only if its residents "in all fairness, in compliance with God's law", the Patriarch said and noted that Rybinsk merchants "made big deals only on their honor as the good name was considered more important than the capital."
"What a wonderful model for modern Russians, for any person who suddenly gains financial means showing how to unite spiritual and material, work and prayer!" he said.
