Russia’s main holiday - Victory Day – is being celebrated by the people of Russia. 65 years ago the human hands of Soviet soldiers, supported by the Western allies crushed fascism. According to the Defense Ministry, the total Soviet losses amounted to 26,6 million, of which two-thirds were part of the civilian population. It is more than half of human losses in World War II, including both `Germany and its satellites, and all countries who fought against Nazism. The center for celebrations is the capital of Russia, Moscow. On Red Square the all-Russian military parade will start. Parades will be held simultaneously in 72 cities of Russia, and Sevastopol, where the main base of the Black Sea Fleet is located. Participating in the parade will be about 102 thousand soldiers. Mounted in the squares of these cities will be special monitors which show broadcasts of the parade in Moscow in real time. The military parade on Red Square will for the first time see the participation of units from members of anti-Hitler coalition, the United States, Britain and France, as well as the Polish Army. Plus there will be parade companies from the CIS countries. On Red Square there will be more than fifteen hundred combat vehicles, missile and artillery units, and 127 planes and helicopters will fly over the Kremlin.

Drummers and flag-bearers marched through Red Square in Moscow at 10:00 a.m. as the 65th Victory Parade began. There were followed by troops dressed in World War II military uniforms. Marching alongside Russian soldiers were troops from other countries of the anti-Hitler coalition - the United States, Britain, France and Poland, and troop units from post-Soviet republics. The legendary Soviet T-34 tank opened the mechanized part of the parade and then modern weaponry was rolled out, including the latest Topol-M heavy ballistic missile launchers. President Dmitry Medvedev and the leaders of more than 20 countries were overseeing the parade. Simultaneous Victory parades took place in all Cities of Military Glory across Russia.
