Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and BelarusApr 2, 2010 09:40 Moscow Time
Friday is the Day of Unity of the peoples of Russia and Belarus. It was instituted 14 years ago on April 2, 1996, to commemorate the signing of a treaty on the formation of a community of Russia and Belarus, which paved the way for deep integration between the two neighboring Slav nations. It was bolstered by follow-up treaties on the Russian-Belarusian Union and the creation of a Union State of Russia and Belarus.
