Donetsk court pronounces illegal Hero of Ukraine title of Bandera

DONETSK, April 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The Donetsk District Administrative Court has pronounced illegal the ordinance of former president Viktor Yushchenko that awarded the Hero of Ukraine title to Stepan Bandera.
The court upheld reasons of Donetsk lawyer Vladimir Olentsevich, who initiated the hearing.
Most of the six-hour hearing was dedicated to the consideration of the demands of Bandera advocates who wished to take part in the hearing as the third party. The grandson of the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, Canadian journalist Stepan Bandera, did not attend the hearing.
“In the end, I confronted the ex-president only. I am glad that the court has accepted my view as founded,” Olentsevich said.
“The president must not breach national laws in bestowing awards,” the court said. Bandera was not a citizen of Ukraine, so the court proclaimed the ordinance of the former president unlawful.
