Ukrainian nationalists fought for Georgia against South Ossetia in 2008

Mercenaries from the UNA-UNSO (Ukrainian National Assembly - Ukrainian Nationalistic Self Defense) fought on the side of Georgia when it attacked South Ossetia in August 2008, Vladimir Markin, spokesman for the General Prosecution of the Russian Federation has said. He was presenting the main points of the report on the investigation into the case of genocide and mass murders of Russian citizens in South Ossetia. Markin said that recruiting and financing of UNA-UNSO militants had been organized by Georgia's Interior Ministry. The investigation stated numerous facts of the violation of international humanitarian norms and human rights regarding the peaceful citizens of South Ossetia and Russian peacekeepers by Georgian servicemen. The report also contains facts of the Georgian army using heavy offensive weapons banned by international conventions.
